Abstract

In the era of information technology, the power of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other products of digital technology have led to dramatic changes to the social life of people in a pluralistic Indonesia. The establishment of a digital public space that can accommodate all entities, classes, or social communities to communicate freely, without limit and open up greater opportunities for the achievement of goals in accordance with the interests, both on the basis of political goals, economic, cultural, trust and ethnic , also helped to increase the potential for social conflicts with more complex backgrounds. One of them is the widespread of racism in social media against ethnic of minorities as it occurred during the 2017 Jakarta governor election involving Basuki Tjahaya Purnama, a candidate of the ethnic of Chinese-Indonesian. This paper seeks to explore the contribution of social media as a medium for spreading the hate of speech and racism and the factors that cause it. This article finds that; firstly, the development of information technology and freedom gained by every user in managing social media member space for racism group in Indonesia utilizes the progress of information technology as medium in spreading hatred and racism in Cyber space. Secondly, the existence of hate speech and racism in social media cannot be separated from socio-political situation in society.

Abstrak

Pemilihan strategi pembelajaran yang baik dan selaras dengan kemampuan mahasiswa sangat mendukung keberhasilan suatu proses belajar mengajar. Penelitian ini membandingkan dua strategi pembelajaran yaitu strategi GRA dan strategi SQ3R untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman bacaan serta minat membaca mahasiswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah  (1) untuk membuktikan strategi mana (GRA atau SQ3R) yang lebih efektif dan sesuai untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan pada mahasiswa, dan (2) untuk membuktikan strategi mana (GRA atau SQR) yang lebih efektif untuk meningkatkan minat membaca mahasiswa program studi Keperawatan semester 6 Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. Penelitian ini menggunakan model eksperimen dengan desain kausal-komparatif dengan melibatkan kelompok eksperimen yang diajar menggunakan strategi Group Reading Active (GRA) dan kelompok control diajar menggunakan strategi Survey, Question, Reading, Recite and Review (SQ3R). Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu (1) tes kemampuan pemahaman bacaan berupa tes tulis dengan pengolahan data menggunakan program SPSS versi 20.0 dan (2) angket minat mahasiswa dengan pengolahan data menggunakan skala Likert. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa program studi keperawatan semester 6 Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. Kelas keperawatan 1 sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelas keperawatan 2 sebagai kelompok control.

Abstract

This article describes the guidance and training of English for the convicted child by taking the object of the convict community of the Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Klas II A in Samarinda. This observation involved 37 participants with minimum age of 16 years old coached. This article assumed that the environment in prison was completely organized and discipline which expected as the opportunity to improve the ability of the English language due to the environment and the situation is one of the supporting factors to improve English language skills. The implementation method of this program included: training, lecturing, questioning and answering, and discussing in English. The results of this program were: (1) improvement within knowledge, comprehension and interest in learning English within participants (2) fun learning activities such as interactive and game were more attractive for participants than another method (3) the level of interest was high, it was approximately 92% of the participants who attended the training for 2 months (4) the capability of the participants was emerged as 40% of participants were able to speak and use simple English along mentoring session.

Abstract

Organizational commitment considered as the important issue in any types of organization. Majority studies have been addressed on organizational commitment among profit worker. Oppositely, studies about organizational commitment addressed for volunteer to run the program generally engage with nonprofit organization tend to be lack. This study was conducted to emerge organizational commitment in different aspect within nonprofit organization especially related to non-formal education as well as extension education. The objective of the study is to examine relationship between satisfaction and organizational commitment among scout volunteer. The research used quantitative method to analyze the data. The instrument to collect the data used questionnaire adapted from previous studies. It was divided into several parts: demographic information, Volunteer Satisfaction Index (VSI), and Organizational commitment (OCQ). By using simple random sampling technique, the questionnaire was administered to 220 respondents from scout center organization in Samarinda-East Kalimantan, Indonesia.  Only 207 samples (94%) could be applied for data analysis whereby the rest were considered incomplete answer. The data was analyzed through descriptive as well as inferential statistic. The finding of the study revealed that two of four dimensions from job satisfaction namely organizational support and group integration considered having correlation towards organizational commitment, conversely, organizational efficacy and empowerment were failed to have correlation with organizational commitment. Several implications and recommendation related to the subject were provided in this study.

Abstract

Numerous studies have been concerned on organizational commitment among profit worker oppositely organizational commitment’s studies which focused on nonprofit worker tend to be lack. Nonprofit employee generally recruit and involve volunteer to run their program. Several nonprofit organizationsi¯ program is related to non-formal education. For that matter, this study was conducted to evaluate volunteer involvement which especially concern on non-formal education. The objective of this study is to examine relationship between motivation and organizational commitment among volunteer scout as well as find the best predictor affecting organizational commitment. This study used volunteer scout organization since this organization run within non-formal education area. The research used quantitative study to analyze the data. The instrument that has been utilized to collect the data was self administered questionnaire. The data was analyzed descriptively as well as inferentially. The questionnaire was divided into several parts: demographic, Volunteer Function Inventory (VFI), and Organizational commitment (OCQ). The data collection was taken in Samarinda city which located in East Kalimantan-Indonesia. The questionnaire was administered to 207 participants from scout movement center organization. The sample was taken by using random sampling technique and using Scout volunteer in Scout Center-Samarinda as the subject. Finally, the finding of the study revealed that overall motivation as well as the dimension was positively correlated to organizational commitment. Meanwhile, understanding dimension was considered become the best predictor affecting organizational commitment among volunteer scout in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Several implications were emerged from non-formal education view as well as nonprofit area.

Abstract

The existence of volunteerism could be observed from several aspects in various communities as it is functioned as presented action with intention to help others and expect less material compensation or monetary advantages. Volunteers working under organizational context rather than working alone, they provide two services namely service for the society. this study has several emphasizes that arranged into several objectives namely; to determine the level of motivation, satisfaction, and organizational commitment, to determine the relationship between motivation and organizational commitment, to determine the relationship between satisfaction and organizational commitment, to determine the relationship among dimension and organizational commitment, to determine the best predictor dimension for organizational commitment. The present study is using quantitative research design, therefore it used descriptive as well as inferential statistic to analyze the data. According to the findings, regression model fit the data (F=10.280, p<.05). Based on the interpretation on the value, it could be decided that only understanding dimension (t= 2.531, p<;.05) had significant contribution to the organizational commitment among scout volunteer in East Kalimantan.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore students’ experience towards online-based writing portfolio. As the use of information technology evolved, the penetration of online lifestyle into youths’ life has inevitably come deeper. In order to get the students engaged with their lesson, it was decided to make use of some online platforms for the students to work with their tasks in writing course. Utilizing qualitative method the study involved 30 students of English Department in Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire with open-ended questions. The results showed that in general students were motivated to use the platforms as learning media for writing. They found it easy to write their essay assignments with these facilities since it could develop creativity.

Abstract

In teaching learning process, the target language is an important thing which has been noticed by the teacher. The phenomenon about misunderstanding language is not only occurring in daily life with soft conversation but also in the formal education. In education event, when the teacher teaches students in the classroom, they use target language during activities. The aims of this study were to describe the teacher’s hurdles in using target language at first grade of Junior High School and how the teacher delivered instruction by using target language at EFL class. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. This study used a qualitative description. Five English teachers were involved. The researcher collected the data as interview, and observation. Referring to the finding of the study, based on result of interview found the teachers problems used target language in teaching learning process, such as; the low vocabulary of the students, the ability of English skill of the students, the situation in the classroom did not support the use of target language, the time was not effective. Based on the findings of classroom observation in classroom the teacher delivered used the target language in simple sentence on greeting, giving instruction, asking question, delivering materials and closing.

Abstract

Test of English as a foreign Language or TOEFL is a standardized test of English for non-native speaker. It consists of three parts or three sections of tests. In Reading Comprehension test, it consists of vocabulary test. To get better result of score, it needs strategies. The purposes of this study are to know the strategies used by the students to answer the vocabulary test on reading section of TOEFL, to know the most strategy used by the students, to know the least strategy used by the students and to know the distribution of strategies used by the students to answer the Vocabulary test of Reading Comprehension of the TOEFL. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. The subject was twelve students. The instrument was questionnaire that consisted of thirty questions. Data analyzes technique was by using mean score. The result of the research showed that; (1) students used all strategies to answer the vocabulary test of reading comprehension of TOEFL. (2) the most strategies used by the students was ‘Looking for contextual clues to the meaning of unknown words.(3) the least strategy used by the students to answer vocabulary test was ‘Developing a new vocabulary study system, and (4) the distribution of the strategy number 1 was 3.88,strategy number 2 was 3.61, number 3 was 2.94, number four was 2.91, strategy number 5 was3.88, strategy number six was 3.47, strategy number seven was 3.69, strategy number eight was 3.02, strategy number nine was 3.00 and the last strategy was 3.13.

Abstract

Reinforcement is one of the strategies in classroom management, which is familiar among teachers. One of the types of reinforcement in social reinforcement is praise. Praise can function as a tool for instruction and for increasing social and academic behaviors. To be effective, the student must view the attention provided through praise as pleasurable or motivational. The design of this study was correlation design. The research participant was the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 9 Samarinda. The purposes of this study are to find out how is relationship between the teacher’s praise and the English learning achievement tenth grade of SMK Negeri 9 Samarinda and is there any significant relationship between English teacher’s praise and English learning achievement. The researcher conducted observation for a month, distributed questionnaires and collected the result of achievement test from the teacher, as the instruments of this study. Then the collected data were analyzed in order to find out the manifestation of reinforcement applied by the teacher. After analyzing the data gained through the observation, the researcher found out that English teacher praise significantly correlate with the English learning achievement of tenth grade SMK Negeri 9 Samarinda (r-value: 0,442 > r-table: 0,334). From the questionnaire, it was found that the students showed positive response or opinion toward the implementation of reinforcement in their class for example teacher praises immediately, frequently, enthusiastically, by using eye contact, uses many kinds of word praise and explains the reason why he praises students.

Abstract

Today technology plays an important role in pedagogy. As students, it is important for them to be equipped with various ICT presentation tools to communicate effectively and efficiently their reports and presentations. It is in this light that the objective of this study is to determine the experiences and the problems faced off the students of English department in using Prezi in the classroom. A qualitative method used in this study. The researcher took students of the fourth semester as the subject of observation because they have prior knowledge or experience use presentation tool that collaborates with pictures or videos, themes, effects, and hyperlink in order to make slides of presentation or report especially in using another presentation tool. In this study, the researcher used two instruments were observation and interview. For data collection, the researcher used focus group interview to collect information relate to their experience in implementing Prezi and observed 54 students in accessing account until sharing of Prezi. In observation period, the researcher found the students got problems in making Prezi especially feature of video, path, image, music and animation. However, they also shared some challenges in using a feature of presentation tools. For instance, they needed an internet connection to import music and video online. They also needed the Wi-Fi and/or internet connection to download Prezi.

Abstract

This research aimed at comparing mind mapping technique and semantic mapping technique in teaching reading comprehension. It was intended to find out which technique (mind mapping or semantic mapping) was more effective to strengthen the reading comprehension and which technique was more interesting in learning process to the second graders of SMAN 5 Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It was an experimental research. There are two classes taken as sample, XI IPA1as experimental 1 class, and XI IPA2 as experimental 2 class. Researcher collected the data through reading test and questionnaire as research instrument. The result revealed that (1) students obtained higher score after being taught under mind mapping technique as opposed to those who studied under semantic mapping technique (2) students who studied narrative text under mind mapping technique showed great reading interest.

Abstract

Perilaku bullying di sekolah merupakan salah satu permasalahan sosial yang kini sangat banyak ditemukan dan memiliki dampak negatif pada kondisi psikologis dan sosial siswa yang pada akhirnya akan mempengaruhi proses belajar mengajar siswa di sekolah. Menurut data KPAI pada tahun 2015, di provinsi Kalimantan Timur terjadi 195 kasus kekerasan terhadap anak. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini merupakan program pelatihan preventif untuk mencegah dan meminimalisasi bullying di sekolah. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini akan dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 16 Samarinda dengan melakukan pelatihan komunikasi teman sebaya. Pelatihan ini akan diaplikasikan dalam bentuk forum diskusi dan berbagi pengalaman bullying sebagai upaya untuk menciptakan sarana komunikasi yang efektif sehingga dapat mengurangi perilaku bullying di sekolah. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah memberikan pelatihan keterampilan komunikasi teman sebaya melalui metode diskusi, forum diskusi dan dengar pendapat tentang kasus dalam menyampaikan informasi antibullying. Metode peer teaching assessment akan digunakan dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini. Khalayak sasaran yang dipilih adalah siswa dan siswi kelas 11 dan 12 SMA 16 Samarinda. Sebanyak 129 Siswa dan Siswi yang menghadiri kegiatan pelatihan komunikasi teman sebaya sebagai antisipasi bullying di sekolah. Pelaksanaan pelatihan komunikasi bullying melalui teman sebaya ini merupakan langkah tepat untuk memotivasi dan memberikan informasi antibullying kepada siswa di sekolah. Beberapa faktor yang mendukung terlaksananya kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini adalah besarnya minat, antusiasme dan perhatian peserta selama kegiatan, sehingga kegiatan berlangsung dengan lancar dan efektif. Sedangkan faktor penghambatnya adalah keterbatasan waktu pelatihan kemampuan peserta yang dilihat dari penguasaan materi tentang bullying dan pelatihan komunikasi teman sebaya masih dirasa tidak maksimal dikarenakan waktu yang singkat dalam penyampaian materi serta kemampuan para siswa yang berbeda-beda. Selain itu, permasalahan fasilitas tempat dan ruang seminar yang sempit sehingga menyulitkan siswa untuk membentuk kelompok diskusi bullying secara langsung.

Abstract

The present research were aimed to find out how far the satisfaction level of non English department students in using online dictionary and translation and to determine the aspects involved in using online translation for comprehending material in English. This study was conducted due to many phenomenon have been noticed around the students’ life. This research was correlation study among student’s satisfaction and aspects involved it. 175 students selected as a respondents to conduct the data by using purposive sampling from the total of first year non English department student in UMKT Samarinda East Kalimantan. Questionnaire was applied as an instrument to obtain the data.  The data analyzed quantitatively was computed by using Statictical analysis. Content validity and reliability was ensured. The reliability of several constructs was larger than the 0.7 threshold. The result showed that there was significant relationship between Google Translate (GT) and student satisfaction it was showed by the moderate correlation (.670**). The aspects which influence student’s satisfaction on using GT were self efficacy, system function, and perceived usefulness. For future researcher suggested constructing the comparison among student in using online dictionary and vice versa.

Abstract

This study examines of students’ speaking anxiety, self-efficacy, speaking achievement and their feeling about the activities conducted using WhatsApp activities in English as a Foreign Language speaking class. Three instruments used to collect the data in this study were the questionnaire, speaking test and interview. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic to find out the level of students speaking anxiety and self-efficacy. The multiple regressions were to investigate the relationship between variables and two-way ANOVA to know the significant differences between the variables and interview to get information about mobile application activities through focus group discussion. The integration of Smartphone in teaching and learning English can effectively reduce the students’ speaking anxiety, and makes a good score in speaking English as a Foreign Language. Furthermore, the researcher finds that foreign language speaking anxiety was statistically predicted students’ speaking achievement. The decreasing in speaking anxiety means the increase in students’ speaking achievement. Finally, students indicated if they are eager to continue using WhatsApp for enhancing their speaking abilities as a part of classroom activities for the future.

Abstract

The study is aimed: (1) to know whether Flip Classroom with STAD method is more effective than Traditional Insturction to teach reading; (2) to know whether the students who have high learning interest have better reading comprehension than those who have low learning interest; and (3) to know whether there is an interaction between Flip Classroom with teaching methods and students’ language interest. The population of the research is the First year students of Public Health. The samples were from two classes. In taking the sample, cluster random sampling approach was used. Each class was divided into two groups (the students who have high and low learning interest). Then, the techniques which have been used to accumulate the information had been questionnaire student learning interest and reading test. The data were analysed by using multifactor analysis of ANOVA 2×2 and Tuckey test. There are some some research findings: (1) Flip Classroom with STAD method is more effective than Traditional Instruction to teach reading; (2) the reading comprehension of the students who have high learning interest is better than of those who have low learning interest because; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching methods and learning interest for teaching reading. It is concluded that there is an interaction impact among methods and students’ learning interest for teaching reading. Flip Classroom  with STAD is suitable for students having high learning interest and Traditional Instruction is suitable for students having low learning interest.

Abstract

This research is aimed to reveal: (1) The similarities between English passive voice and Indonesian passive voice; and (2) The differences between English and Indonesian passive voice. In collecting data, the writer uses documentation technique. The source of the data is taken from Practical English Usage, Practical English Grammar, Modern English and Tata Bahasa Indonesia. Furthermore, this research employs contrastive analysis theory of passive voice by Frisiak and Jackson. In conducting the research, the writer employs the qualitative research. Qualitative research is a research which results in the descriptive data in the form observed people or behaviors. (Moleong, 1983:3). Then, the step to conduct this qualitative study are: (1) determining the object of the research; (2) determining the source of the data; (3) determining the method of the data collection; and (4) determining the technique of data analysis. The result of the study shows that, there are five similarities of Indonesian and English passive voice. The distribution of verb both in English and Indonesian passive voice is after subject. In both English and Indonesian passive voice, only transitive verb can be changed into passive voice. English and Indonesian passive voice have the same rule Subject + predicate + agent. English and Indonesian passive voice have the subject as a receiver of the action and the agent as a doer the action. English and Indonesian passive voice have preposition (In English has preposition by in Indonesian is translated oleh). There are two differences between Indonesian and English passive voice. (1) The predicate of English passive voice is past participle, (2) English passive voice is determined by tenses. (3) The predicate of Indonesian passive voice is verb with affix di ‘di-kan/-I, diper-kan/-i:, (4) In Indonessian passive voice, there are no tenses and pas participle.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were: (1) Describe the procedures used by the teacher in teaching English based on Genre-based Approach; (2) Describe the types of the classroom activities using Genre-based approach; (3) Describe the problems faced by the teacher and the solution in teaching English using Genre-based Approach.

The population of the research is the second year students of English department of UMKT in the academic year of 2018/2019. The samples were from one class. In taking the sample, total sampling approach was used.

The data in this research were information about the teaching strategies and difficulties faced by the teacher on teach English based on GBA and also the difficulties faced by the students of second year at UMKT.

In collecting the data, it was taken from the sources by employing observation interview, and document. There were three main components of analysed data, namely (1) Reduction of Data; (2) Display the Data; (3) Interpreting.

The research finding of this study were: (1) The Procedure of Teaching English: By GBA, the teacher feels easier to deliver the material; (2) Classroom Activities: Based on the implementation of School-based Curriculum in teaching English, the teacher conducted several classroom activities that consist of four cycles, namely BKOF, MOT, JCOT, and ICOT; (3) Problem faced by Teacher: The problems are the student’s difficulty in vocabulary and pronounciation, teacher’s difficulty in manage the time. To solve this problem the teacher should give more attention to the students that less in capability rather than general students.

Dari pelaksanaan sosialisasi di SMA 1 Muara Badak, dengan judul: “Sosialisasi Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur 2018” ditemukan beberapa hasil sebagai berikut:

  1. Hasil dari serangkaian kegiatan sosialisasi yang dilakukan kepada peserta yang telah ditetapkan yaitu siswa-siswi kelas 2 dan kelas 3 SMA 1 Muara Badak dimana dari tingkat kehadiran peserta dalam kegiatan penyuluhan sudah cukup baik, kemampuan peserta dalam memahami materi juga sudahcukup baik dan kemampuan tim sosialisasi dalam menyajikan materi sudah cukup baik.
  2. Kemampuan pemahaman peserta akan materi yang disampaikan terlihat dari pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang disampaikan pada sesi diskusi. Dimana peserta mampu menyerap dan menanggapi materi yang disampaikan oleh tim sosialisasi yang berhubungan dengan sosialisasi fakultas dan program studi yang ada dilingkungan Universitas Kalimantan Timur terutamanya pada Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan.
  3. Setiap peserta menunjukkan keingintahuannya secara kongkrit bagaimana sebaiknya memilih program studi yang tepat sehingga nantinya akan dapat membuka akses kepada dunia kerja.
  4. Sosialisasi ini memberikan pemahaman kepada peserta, bagaimana peran Perguruan Tinggi dalam mendukung dan menyiapkan mahasiswa dengan keterampilan dan keahlian dibidang keilmuan sehingga nantinya dapat berkompetisi dan maju bukan saja dalam dunia kerja tetapi juga dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan bermasyarakat.
  5. Sosialisasi ini juga memberikan pengetahuan kepada peserta mengenai strategi dan trik-trik dalam memilih jurusan/prodi yang sesuai dengan minat dan bakat. Sehingga diharapkan dengan adanya pengetahuan ini, siswa-siswi SMA 1 MUARA BADAK dapat mengambil keputusan memilih prodi dengan cerdas tidak hanya ikut-ikutan teman.

Sector kuliner adalah favorit para wirausahawan pemula di Kaltim. Kue getas merupakan salah satu penganan kue tradisional rumahan. Produsen kue getas yang merupakan khalayak sasaran pengabdian adalah usaha yang didasari pada warisan keluarga. Pemilihan khalayak sasaran dikarenakan adanya peluang bisnis yang lebih luas dalam pemasarannya namun terhambat oleh pengadaan media atau sarana dan prasarana penunjang baik segi modal, pemasaran, pengadaan alat, material/bahan, dan pengemasan. Kegiatan PKM ini bertujuan mengembangkan usaha kecil kepemasaran yang lebih luas dengan pengadaan material dari sumbernya dengan mudah dan murah, serta menggunakan peralatan penunjang modern guna pengefisienan waktu dalam pengolahan. Kerangka pemecahan masalah terhadap usaha rumahan yang ada pada khalayak sasaran meliputi pengadaan bahan, pengadaan alat, pemasaran, dan pengemasan. Tim pengabdi melakukan pendamping untuk mengembangkan UKM kue getas baik dalam hal pengadaan bahan, pemasaran, penyediaan alata dan pengemasan yang memudahkan produsen dalam mengolah, mengemas dan memasarkan produk yang dihasilkan. Dalam pelaksanaannya di lapangan tim pengabdi berupaya mengarahkan pelaku usaha untuk tidak hanya melirik pasar yang lebih luas namun juga meninjau aspek pengadaan bahan dengan membuka link pasar, alat yang ekonomis dan mampu mengefisiensi waktu, pengemasan produk dengan bahan yang ramah lingkungan dan pemasaran melalui media on line. Target luaran dari kegiatan PKM ini adalah dapat dimuat dalam artikel jurnal nasional dan jurnal PKM di Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur.

Lokasi pelaksanaan kegiatan pembinaan persiapan menghadapi Ujian Nasional ini adalah SMP Negeri Loa Janan tepatnya SMPN 4 Loa Janan. Yang dimulai pada 4 September sampai dengan 25 Nopember 2017.

Kegiatan pembinaan persiapan menghadapi Ujian Nasional di sekolah-sekolah baik menengah pertama maupun menengah atas adalah sebuah kegiatan umum yang dilakukan guna membekali dan mempersiapkan peserta didik agar terlatih dalam menyelesaikan soal-soalyang diprediksi muncul pada saat Ujian Nasional. Di SMPN 4 Loa Janan pun terbilang antusias dalam menerima bentuk bimbingan guna pengembangan peserta didik mereka. Diharapkan dengan pembinaan siswa-siswi di SMPN 4 Loa Janan siswa dapat mencapai nilai maksimal pada ujian nasional yang akan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 23 sampai dengan 26 April 2018.

Abstract

This paper was aimed at evaluating a web-based English language learning media collaboratively developed by the researchers, by using CMS, following the emerging notion about industrial revolution 4.0 and the internet of things, which was sounded by the government. This study employed case study design. This study involved the experts of both material expert in language teaching and IT experts as the evaluator from the perspective of their expertise. In addition, it also involved 50 students of the 4th semester from the nursing department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur as the evaluating users of the websites. The data was analyzed descriptively and the data collected from surveying the students was analyzed by using SPSS descriptive quantitative. The result showed that the web which had been developed as material for language learning is feasible after getting valuable feedback from the experts and the students as the user. It can be concluded that the web-based language learning media developed by utilizing CMS was very useful, easy, and practical for both the teacher and the students.

Google Suite merupakan salah satu paket aplikasi yang disediakan oleh Perusahaan Google untuk menunjang proses pembelajaran. Google Suite dirancang untuk mempermudah siswa dan guru dalam berbagi materi, informasi dan memberikan tugas-tugas secara online. Proses pembelajaran pada jurusan Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan SMK Muhammadiyah Loa Janan masih terbatas dalam pertemuan didalam kelas, padahal perkembangan teknologi saat ini sekiranya mamput untuk menjembatani antara siswa dan guru dalam melakukan proses pembelajaran dimana pun dan kapan pun. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan guru dan siswa tentang aplikasi Google Suite dan bagaimana cara menggunakannya. Jurusan Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan yang merupakan jurusan yang paling terbiasa dengan software aplikasi dipilih sebagai objek dalam kegiatan ini, dengan jumlah keseluruhan peserta adalah 63 orang. Dari kegiatan ini, terlihat bahwa para siswa dan guru dapat dengan mudah berinteraksi menggunakan Google Suite dan proses pembelajaran online dengan aplikasi Google Suite sagat mungkin dilakukan, yang menjadi kendala hanyalah koneksi jaringan di wilayah sekitar sangat lemah.

Integrasi teknologi dengan unsur pedagogi dalam pendidikan bahasa Inggris telah bermula sejak awal mula teknologi itu dikembangkan. Hal ini, tentunya dapat menjadi landasan fundamental bagi para peneliti dan praktisi untuk terus mengembangkan system pengajaran berbasis teknologi informasi. Terlebih lagi, menurut data yang dirilis oleh Kementrian Komunikasi dan Informasi, pengguna internet dan smartphone mencapai lebih daari 100 juta yang menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat Indonesia adalah masyarakat yang “melek” teknologi, disisi lain mayoritas pengguna internet ini adalah pelajar dan mahasiswa. Dengan demikian sudah merupakan keharusan bagi pengembang media ajar untuk memanfaatkan IT dalam membuat materi. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Research and Development (R&D). Adapun kerangka riset yang dilaksanakan adalah kerangka penelitian R&D materi web-design seperti yang diusulkan Hasim (2005). Subjek penelitian ini adalah 50 mahasiswa Keperawatan semester 4 di Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa web yang dikembangkan untuk menjadi media ajar telah layak untuk digunakan setelah mendapatkan penilaian dari para ahli dan mahasiswa sebagai pengguna.
